Schroeder Honored with Resolution

Mark A. Schroeder, a chairman and chief executive officer of German American Bancorp, Jasper, has been honored with a concurrent resolution by the Indiana Senate and House. Presented on Monday, March 13, the resolution honored Schroeder for being named by American Banker magazine as one of three nationwide Community Bankers of the Year for 2016. The resolution was authored by Sen. Mark Messmer and Rep. Mike Braun.

Schroeder joined German American in 1972 as a vault teller and served in multiple positions before being named CEO in 1999. Under his direction, German American Bancorp has experienced six consecutive years of record earnings and has been one of the most consistently profitable banks in the country, as reported in American Banker.

In 2009, Schroeder was one of 12 community bankers in the nation invited to meet with President Barack Obama at the White House to discuss local economies and small business lending challenges. He has been active with multiple professional organizations, including the Community Bankers Association of Indiana, Indiana Bankers Association, Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Currently Schroeder serves as a board member of ICBA Bancard and as vice chairman of the board of directors of the Indiana Department of Financial Institutions. A certified public accountant, he is a graduate of the University of Evansville and of the Stonier Graduate School of Banking.

Born and raised in Jasper, the town that his great great grandfather immigrated to from Germany, Schroeder appreciates genealogy and family ties. He and his wife Marlene are parents to three married daughters, and their growing family currently includes three grandchildren.
